Looking Up

Things are looking up. No, I still haven't been cleared to run, but I am ok with what's going on. Several friends have been super supportive (thanks a ton guys) and wished me well.

One major question I've gotten is what about the hike and IM. The answer is I don't know. I'm continuing to train (with the exception of running) like I'm doing both. I'm still going to Africa. I'm still going to Arizona. What happens beyond that I can't say. I haven't given up on either.

I also got this fantastic quote on my facebook wall. It's perfect. Thanks Christy.

"It isn't what you do that makes you an athlete. It isn't how fast or how far you go or how many personal bests you have. It's waking up every day knowing that you will take on whatever the world has for you that day as an athlete. You will embrace the challenges -- physical, emotional and spiritual -- because you know that as an athlete it's the challenge that makes you stronger."

-- John "the Penguin" Bingham

Yesterday I met up with a group for a workout to say goodbye to a good friend. Her stuff had already been packed up, so we all couldn't go for our usual bike ride. She and another decided to run and two others biked. I didn't feel like lugging my bike all the way out again, so I had the brilliant idea of getting out my rollerblades. I haven't been on them since probably 1996.

And you know what? IT WAS AWESOME! I just rolled along behind them and chatted away. I got a total workout of my hip flexors too. (Hip flexors are typically underworked in triathlon-a forward moving sport. Rollerblading makes me move side-to-side.) I thought for sure when I wasn't running that I'd be missing out on all the weekend Team stuff, but now, I'll just be rollerblading along. Evern better is that I can roll along with all kinds of people since now I can actually keep up.

Now, if I could just get my balance working again I'll be all set.

  4. Oh CAT has the perfect idea! Rollerblade down Kilimanjaro! I LOVE IT! What if we hire Sherpas to carry you down "Cleopatra"-style? I'm a fan of the helicopter idea too...Thanks for the BHB workout, I'm going to miss you girls tons!

  5. Tracey, you have a great attitude. I will certainly hope for good things for your knees. Christy's quote for you really does hit the nail on the head. You rock...or roll, on your skates that is. How fun! I've got some skates. I could dust them off and join you and Cat.
